Field Notes: Pop-quiz

My stint in Australia has been extended by two weeks to finish up some behavioral work. Since I’ve finally got the shrimp circus preforming, it would be a waste to pack it up with so many experiments left to do.

In the mean time, here is a little pop quiz:

Who can tell me what this is?

No guesses? These normally get pinned down pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, I did my degree in physics, so I’ve got no idea.

A google image search suggests it may be a picture of ABBA! Some work needs doing on the algorithm there I think.

    Well, at least I tried!

is it a trilobite? Turns out creationists were right all along, evolution is a lie! But really I got no idea. How big is it? The sheen reminds me of the mother of pearl sheen found in some marine snails?

I guess this is a little unfair without scale. It is very tiny, about the size of a period, or the dot of a lower case eye:D

Yep! Adult retina on the bottom, larval retina on the top.

        …cheater :D
