Some recent insect photos

Here are some critter photos I took last week. I am trying to get better at composing interesting macro shots, rather than just stark, scientific cataloguing-style photos. As always, I welcome criticism about technical and compositional elements of my photos, and if anyone can easily ID the cicada and stink bug it would be much appreciated.

Cicada (sp?). This was the only shot I got of this animal; after the flash went off he launched himself into my face before bumbling off into the distance.

Seven-spotted Lady Beetle, Coccinella septempunctata. I really like the shadows and color in this one.

Stink bug (sp?) sucking the juices from some berries.

Fruit Fly, Euaresta aequalis. Not a particular great shot, but this small white fly had awesome iridescent colors in its eyes.

The stink bug is a Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys), and it’s invasive. They creep into the bio building through every crack in the walls so I looked them up one day.

As far as the Cicada, it appears to be Linne’s CicadaTibicen linnei. (broad, green wing costa)
